The V12 E-type turned out to be a comfortable, high performance and very smooth car which restored all of the performance lost with the years. Top speed was once again very close to 150 mph and 0 to 60 acceleration was back down to just under 7 seconds.
The gearbox top cover needs to be the short top which brings the gearlever ut in the correct position. You can cut and weld the top cover so that the excess aluminium which positions the gearlever an extra 3 inches back is removed or source a cover from an s-type or e-type. The overdrive switch wants to run through a relay to power the solenoid.
The Series 3 was launched on 29 March 1971, and had an immediate impact. The top speed as measured in an independent road test was 146 mph (235 km/h; less for US specification cars), and was effectively on a par with the original Series 1 E-type, despite the Series 3 being the bigger and heavier car.
